Obsessive Fan Dies Over Heavenly King Leon
2000-02-08
Hong Kong - Never underestimate the power of a Heavenly King. An ardent worshipper of King Leon Lai may have finally attracted His Majesty's attention - through her death. It was reported that a 26-year-old China born woman Ye Guijuan died from an overdose of sleeping pills, her hands still clutching a videotape of Lai's movie A Hero Never Dies. As reported in a Hong Kong newspaper, the late Hong Kong resident's obsession with Lai may have driven her into deep debt and suicide. Before her death, Ye had chalked up credit card bills of up to HK$250,000 (S$55,000) on Lai's CDs, VCDs, photographs, and tickets to Lai's concert every single night last December. Ye's HK$10,000-a-month supermarket job could not support her addiction and she had to take on a second job. She also borrowed heavily from family and friends. Stacked in Ye's room were at least 300 pieces of Lai's memorabilia. E-online
