Chinese Divers Win Women's 3-Meter Synchro
2005-05-13
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - China's Olympic gold medalists Guo Jinjing and Li Ting won the women's 3-meter synchronized competition Friday at the FINA diving Grand Prix, the same event they won at the Athens Games.Jinjing and Ting scored a 317.10, which was 14.18 points ahead of the second-place team. ``I'm happy with everything from the beginning to the end,'' Jinjing said through an interpreter. Jinjing added that the team could have executed their third dive better. It was a back two-somersault, pike with a 3.0 degree of difficulty. Both Jinjing and Ting missed a clean entry on the dive because they went over too far on the landing. Heike Fischer and Ditte Kotzian of Germany placed second with a 292.92 score. The U.S. team of Nancilea Underwood and Cassidy Krug came in third with a 279.12 score, beating out the fellow American team of Chelsea Davis and Laura Wilkinson by a slim 1.35 point margin. Wilkinson, the Olympic gold medalist in platform from the 2000 Sydney Games, is coming back from surgery on her right wrist in January. ``I'm glad we stepped it up for our first meet together,'' said Wilkinson, who paired with Davis for the first time. ``We hope to step it up again next time.'' The diving competition ends on Sunday.
