HK's "bad boy" back to work after brush with law
2003-03-12
HONG KONG - Who says crime doesn't pay? Nicholas Tse, Hong Kong's "bad boy of pop," has been deluged with offers of new jobs after a short jail stint, which seems to have given him more publicity than he could have hoped for.The heart throb, returning to the limelight after seven months absence from show business including two weeks in jail, told reporters on Wednesday he had signed up to do commercials and movies on top of a hectic schedule of recording and concerts. "Many jobs need to be done," said Tse, who spent two nights in hospital this week because of intestinal inflammation. The 22-year-old recently told Time magazine he was earning 40 percent more than before a car crash that eventually put him behind bars. He was convicted in October of conspiring to pervert the course of justice by allowing his chauffeur to take the blame for crashing his Ferrari last March. Tse was found to be the driver. No one was injured in the crash. He spent two weeks in jail on remand before a judge ordered him to do 240 hours of community service. "What has happened has passed. The most important thing is how to move on now," Tse told a throng of reporters. "I hope to be able to make further progress in movies and music." The singer took a break after his brush with the law. The paparazzi pursued him tirelessly during those months when hardly a day passed without the tabloids mentioning him. But Tse seems to be taking it easier now. "They can't bother me. I'd rather go home and sleep than to get angry with the newspapers," he said. Reuters
