Soccer-Sun Jihai out for year after damaging cruciate ligaments
2004-10-16
LONDON - Manchester City's China defender Sun Jihai will be out of action for a year after damaging ligaments in his left knee on Saturday, manager Kevin Keegan said."He's out for a year, he's done both his medial and cruciate ligaments," Keegan told Sky Sports after City's 1-0 Premier League home win over Chelsea. Sun, 27, injured his left knee two minutes before halftime in a challenge for the ball with Chelsea forward Eidur Gudjohnsen. "(It was an) innocuous challenge, nothing in it, but for us another injury which we can't afford," Keegan said. He added that Sun's departure, at a time when he was keeping Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard in check, was critical but City managed to hold out for only their third win in nine league matches this season, climbing to 10th in the standings. It was Chelsea's first defeat under coach Jose Mourinho.
