CANNES - Sony Pictures Classics has speared a deal to acquire North American rights to Chinese director Zhang Yimou's romantic adventure "House of Flying Daggers," which is screening out of competition here.Set in the year 859, "House of Flying Daggers" centers on a story of love and betrayal in which secret societies vie for the loyalty of the emperor. One such cabal is the House of Flying Daggers. It stars a host of notable Asian film stars, including Takeshi Kaneshiro, Andy Lau and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon's" Zhang Ziyi. Sony Classics also distributed "Crouching Tiger," which clawed more than $128 million in North America and was the highest-grossing foreign-language film in America until "The Passion of the Christ" hit theaters this year. Yimou's credits include "Happy Times," and the Palme d'Or-nominated trio of "Shanghai Triad," "To Live," and "Ju Dou." Reuters/Hollywood Reporter
