Taiwanese premier Frank Hsieh resigns

Frank Hsieh, premier of Taiwan's cabinet, announced on Tuesday noon his resignation. His successor is expected to be appointed next week and a cabinet reshuffle will also be completed at the same time, according to media reports from Taiwan.Hsieh, who once served as chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party, assumed his premiership on Jan. 25, 2005. Hsieh was previously mayor of Kaohsiung, a major southwestern port city on the island.
